An Extremely Rare Dutch Iron Hand-Cannon, salvaged from the Malaysian Coast and dating to the 15th Century. This hand cannon would have been employed by the early Dutch trading vessels for deterring the many pirate ships that plagued South China Sea. Hand cannons such as this were placed at the top deck of the ship, where they could be angled down to attack close range enemy vessels attempting to board. Robust construction, with octagonal reinforced barrel and rear, depressed touch-hole. Intact and unrestored. Length: 16 1/2 inches.
